Welcome to Mrs. Jones's Explorer language arts class!
Hello and welcome to West Middle School and the Explorer team. I am so excited about this school year and look forward to learning more about all my students. Since I will learn about you, I want you to learn a little about me too. I have three children, Jordan, Dodger and Brooklyn. Jordan and Dodger have already graduated from high school, but Brooklyn still attends Ponca City Schools. I also have two grandsons named Preston and Tegan.. I just got married May 30, 2013 to my wonderful husband, Travis. My parents and brother and sister and their families all live here in Ponca City. Having my family close to me is awesome! I love spending time at the lake and in the pool with my family and friends. I am an avid OU fan as you will soon see by my classroom decor. Summer is my favorite time of the year as it allows me to be at the lake and in our pool relaxing with family and friends. I also love shopping for antiques for my home with my husband. I attended Marland Public Schools from 1st grade through 12th grade and graduated in 1986.My school consolidated with Red Rock Public Schools and become Frontier Public Schools a few years later. I graduated from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, OK in 1988 with an Associate of Science degree. I then attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK, and graduated in 1991 with my Bachelor of Science degree in Education. I am starting my twenty-fourth year of teaching this year. I started my teaching career in 1991 in Shidler, OK.For three years, I taught 7th and 8th grade English, elementary P.E., and coached the junior high and high school girls basketball, softball, and track. I then moved to Alameda, California and taught middle school P.E. and ran the after-school program at a private Jewish school called Tehiyah Day School in El Cerito, CA. A small town Christian girl in a private Jewish school in California was quite an interesting yet enjoyable experience. I then moved to Silverdale, Washington and taught middle school P.E. and health. Life then took my family and me back to Oklahoma, and I taught elementary P.E. for three years and coached 8th grade girls' basketball for one year at Council Grove Elementary in the Western Heights School District in Oklahoma City. Finally, we moved back "home" to Ponca City. I taught college freshman composition I and II for one year at N.O.C part time and ran the 21st Century Learning Center at Shidler, OK. I then accepted a position in Ponca City at East Middle School and taught there for two years. I then transferred to West Middle School in 2003 and have been teaching here at West ever since then. I absolutely love my job and teaching middle school students! I say they keep me young at heart. I look forward to building a positive relationship with each student and helping him/her become a well-rounded, educated, productive member of West Middle School and life. I am here to help my students and parents in any way I can. Please contact me at my school email or call the school for "any" questions you may have. :)
